About Rakops River lodge

Rakops River Lodge began operations in March 2012. It is located 10km from Rakops village in Xhwitshaa area. The vegetation found in the area is similar to that of Ntwentwe Pans, comprising mainly short (setshi) bushes and open wide flat spaces with no trees in horizon. The area is frequented by various animals including the Makgadikgadi elephants, elands, ostriches and different types of fish during the winter.

The eco-friendly policy – Rakops River Lodge is environmentally conscious and very friendly with nature that is why we always go green where possible. The lodge is powered mainly by the electric power utility, with solar power as backup for lighting only. The benefit of using solar power as backup of supply electricity is the reduction of noise and smoke fumes pollution to Clients and environment by a standby generator during power failures. Therefore, there won’t be any air pollution given off by stand by generators. We also have a strict no littering policy, because we understand that it is important to preserve nature for future generations. Residents/visitors are advised to walk strictly only in the designated pathways that are cleaned frequently.
